Purpose of the Program

Create the chance for both international participants and American business and individuals to learn from each other’s cultures and expertise, as well as giving both the opportunity to acquire new perspectives and ideas, while growing professionally at the same time.

In the case of Work and Travel J-1´s, it also provides the opportunity for students to travel around the US and get to know American Culture during their summer break and it’s meant for students to experience and learn from a new culture, while they show theirs to the host company members on their 4-month summer break. This is a seasonal program.

The idea behind the Intern/Trainee program is to help those interested in it to develop skills related to their professional career, learning in a professional environment, practising and polishing their English at the same time. The length of these programs varies from 2 to 18 months, giving the employer different opportunities.

Why are Sponsors needed for J-1 Visa Participants?

Sponsors are organizations that help ensure that all the regulatory requirements for this kind of visa are fulfilled, making sure that the candidate is appropriate for this kind of program and that the job and training they will be doing are correct according to this visa. For that reason, these sponsors, after being designated by The U.S. Department of State, issue a Certificate of Eligibility (DS-2019 Form) that is required for the participants to apply for the visa.
